Okay, this one turned out to be easy once I figured out the right thing to search. But it took an embarassing amount of time to figure out the right things to search.

I wanted a trailing space of content in a div to take up space on the page. But divs by default don’t do that, and I knew there was a way but eh, it’s late on a Friday so I have an excuse.

Once I DDG’d the right terms I got to an article on white-space from Chris over at css-tricks.

The trick is:

white-space: pre

And of course the white-space property does so much more. Thanks Chris!
